We offer a specialist training course designed for senior managers and newly appointed safeguarding leads with designated responsibility for safeguarding adults within their organisations.

We believe in making learning and development accessible, so that the learning is not only informed by practice, but embedded into practice. All our courses are designed to encourage delegates to reflect on and develop their knowledge and skills, through discussion, the use of case studies, current research, and best practice examples.
This programme aims to support the development of competent and confident practice relating to Adult Safeguarding for practitioners and managers of provider services.
By the end of the session participants will have had the opportunity to consider:
- The legislative requirements for Safeguarding Adults as set out in the Care Act 2014.
- The 6 key strands of safeguarding as they relate to individual practice and organisational arrangements.
- The assessment of risk and harm
- Best practice in ensuring that the person’s rights and wishes are at the centre of any safeguarding interventions.
- The principles of information sharing, confidentiality and consent relating to adults at risk of harm or abuse.
- Actions that may be taken following a safeguarding referral, including a Section 42 enquiry.
- Their roles and responsibilities and the roles and the responsibilities of others under Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Safeguarding Adults arrangements.

Audience:
This session is appropriate for practitioners and managers of services whose responsibilities include taking an active role in safeguarding enquiries. It is also suitable for those who have the lead for Adult Safeguarding within their organisation, or whose responsibilities include producing Adult Safeguarding policies, whether in a statutory, private, or voluntary setting.
Who should attend?
Managers, registered managers, newly appointed safeguarding leads and team leaders in care, health, housing and related services. It is not for experienced safeguarding leads or local authority staff.
Please note however, that this is not a course that covers specialist roles within a Section 42 safeguarding enquiry.
Prerequisites
Pre-requisites:
It is expected that participants have a good understanding of the following before attending the workshop: Who the safeguarding adult duties apply to (Care Act 2014). The core principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and their application in practice. How the Human Rights Act 1998 underpins safeguarding work.
This course is in English.
What will I Learn?
Participants will be able:
- to understand the safeguarding duties and responsibilities in the Care Act 2014;
- to reflect on the importance of good safeguarding practices within your organisation;
- to understand practical elements of safeguarding as well as your responsibilities as managers and leads to create a safeguarding culture within your organisation;
- to understand the law in regards to information sharing;
- to recognise your safeguarding role within the multi-agency context and to explore effective partnership working.
