Description
This Manual Handling & Patient Handling course is designed to provide health and social care professionals with the knowledge and practical skills required to carry out moving and handling activities safely, confidently, and in accordance with current legislation and best practice.
Suitable for both those new to the care sector and experienced staff requiring a refresher, the course covers the principles of safe manual handling, risk assessment, reducing the risk of injury, and person-centred approaches to supporting individuals with mobility needs.
Delegates will benefit from a combination of classroom-based learning and practical exercises within our dedicated, fully equipped training room at Mitera Training Academy. Through hands-on practice and realistic care scenarios, participants will develop the competence and confidence needed to promote the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of those they support while protecting their own health and wellbeing.
Learning and Assessment
This course is delivered through a combination of interactive theory sessions, group discussions, practical demonstrations, and hands-on activities to ensure learning is engaging, enjoyable, and relevant to real-life care settings.
Delegates' knowledge and understanding will be assessed throughout the course using a variety of fun and interactive quizzes, discussions, and question-and-answer activities.
Practical competence will be assessed through a series of hands-on moving and handling scenarios using a range of equipment commonly found within health and social care settings. Delegates will have the opportunity to practise using equipment safely and effectively while taking on the role of both the care worker and the individual being supported. This approach helps learners develop a greater understanding of safe techniques, communication, dignity, comfort, and person-centred care.
To successfully complete the course, delegates must demonstrate safe moving and handling practices, effective use of equipment, and an understanding of their responsibilities in maintaining the safety and wellbeing of themselves and those they support.
