Course Description

This Emergency First Aid at Work (Level 3) – Highfield Accredited course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to provide emergency first aid in a variety of situations.

Suitable for workplace first aiders, health and social care professionals, family carers, and members of the public, the course combines theory and practical training to develop essential life-saving skills. Learners will gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a first aider, how to assess an incident safely, and how to provide appropriate first aid for a range of emergencies and injuries.

Practical training includes CPR, use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), management of choking, bleeding, shock, seizures, and the treatment of minor injuries. Through hands-on learning and realistic scenarios, delegates will develop the confidence to act quickly and effectively in an emergency while awaiting professional medical assistance.

Upon successful completion, learners will achieve a recognised Highfield Accredited Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, valid for three years.

Prerequisites

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, and no previous first aid experience is necessary.

This course is suitable for:

  • Members of the public wishing to gain essential first aid skills.
  • Individuals requiring refresher training in emergency first aid.

Delegates must be 18 years of age or over to attend this course.

Please note that it is not necessary to have completed Basic Life Support (BLS) training prior to attending this course, as CPR, recovery position, choking management, and AED use are covered within the qualification. However, learners may benefit from completing a Basic Life Support course as an introduction to life-saving skills or as part of their ongoing professional development.

As this course includes practical first aid activities, learners should be physically able to participate in practical exercises, including kneeling on the floor, performing CPR on a training manikin, and taking part in simulated emergency scenarios.

If you have any medical conditions, injuries, mobility concerns, or are pregnant, please inform the trainer before the course so that appropriate guidance and reasonable adjustments can be discussed where possible.

Delegates are required to wear comfortable clothing and flat, closed-toe footwear suitable for practical activities.

A willingness to actively participate in practical exercises, group discussions, and assessment activities is essential to successfully complete the qualification.

Learning and Assessment

This course is delivered through a combination of interactive learning, trainer-led discussion, practical demonstrations, and realistic scenario-based activities to ensure learners develop the knowledge and confidence required to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Learners will be assessed throughout the course using a multiple-choice knowledge assessment designed to evaluate their understanding of emergency first aid principles, the role of the first aider, casualty assessment, and the management of a range of illnesses and injuries.

Practical competence will be assessed through observation of learners demonstrating essential first aid skills in simulated emergency scenarios. Delegates will be required to demonstrate their ability to assess an incident, perform CPR, place a casualty in the recovery position, manage choking, control bleeding, and respond appropriately to a range of emergency situations.

Scenario-based activities provide learners with the opportunity to apply their knowledge in realistic situations, helping to develop confidence, decision-making skills, and the ability to respond effectively under pressure.

To successfully achieve the qualification, learners must demonstrate both theoretical understanding and practical competence in accordance with the requirements of the Highfield Emergency First Aid at Work (Level 3) qualification.
